Violanda Botet was appointed Deputy Executive Secretary of CICTE of the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security of the Organization of American States in July 2019 where she is responsible for assisting the Executive Secretary in the day to day management of the Secretariat. Ms. Botet is on detail from the U.S. Department of State where she has served as a legal advisor for over 25 years. During her career at the State Department she has provided expertise to Department bureaus such as Western Hemisphere affairs; United Nations Affairs; Consular Affairs; Environmental, Science and Technology; Political Military Affairs among others. She served as special advisor to the Under Secretary of Global Affairs on environmental issues. Ms. Botet also served as legal advisor to the US Mission to the OAS and has extensive experience negotiating agreements related to counterterrorism and law enforcement matters. Before joining the State Department. Ms. Botet worked as a corporate associate at the international law firm of Coudert Brothers.
Ms. Botet grew up in New York City and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Barnard College, Colombia University and a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School. She spent a year in Dijon, France on a Rotary Club Fellowship after law school. Ms. Botet also worked at the German Foreign Ministry, Latin American Bureau as part of a professional exchange program.
